ABOUT THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS (RCOT)

Diverse skills, a united community

We’re the professional body that represents the UK’s occupational therapy professionals, students and apprentices.

We’ve championed the profession and the people behind it for over 90 years; and today, we are thriving with over 35,000 members. We’re here to help achieve life-changing breakthroughs for our members, for the people they support and for society as a whole.

We support and enable members to learn, research, teach, practice and continuously improve their knowledge and skills.

We are the voice for the profession, the guardians of the profession’s body of knowledge and provide trade union membership. RCOT represents the profession locally, nationally and internationally.

We also introduce people to occupational therapy, and this website is home to information that can help you decide if this is the career for you. If you make that decision, we’ll be on hand to support you during your studies and throughout your career. Put simply, we’ll always be here when you need us.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND BELONGING

A career for everyone

A wide range of people need support from occupational therapists. That’s why we’re so committed to attracting people from all walks of life to the profession. As an occupational therapist, you can be any gender, race or sexual orientation, you can be disabled or experience your own physical or mental health problems.

The more diverse, equity-driven and inclusive we are, the better placed we’ll be to ensure everyone is treated with dignity and respect – as equal members of society with the same choices, rights and privileges.
